Seeing Marrakech from the saddle of a bicycle is one of the most rewarding ways to experience the city. Cycling lets you cover far more ground than walking, glide alongside the historic ramparts, and pedal all the way out to the edge of the Palmeraie palm grove.
What a guided bike ride typically covers
A typical route begins early in the morning, weaving through the medina's quieter alleys. From there, the ride follows the red pisé ramparts, the nearly thousand-year-old Almoravid walls, passing gates such as Bab Doukkala and Bab El Khemis. Riders then head toward the Palmeraie, a vast oasis of date palms on the city's outskirts, where the pace slows further among gardens and dirt tracks.
Why cycle, and when to go
Bicycles strike a perfect balance between walking, which can be tiring in the heat, and taxis, which skip the details that make the medina special. The best time to ride is early morning, roughly between 8am and 10am. Rides are generally suitable for most fitness levels.
